Oberhofen – 1st April - FIS is pleased to announce that from the upcoming season 2017/18 “skin skis” will be obligatory in all classical technique competitions.
Over the past months FIS has been working closely with ski racing suppliers on this new regulation. The new equipment rule has been announced now, so that teams, athletes and coaches have enough time to adapt the training before the next season.
The new rule has been thoroughly discussed at all levels and its aim is to help preserve classical technique and at the same time reduce costs for testing and waxing, which has been increasing rapidly during the past seasons.
The new rule will be effective from the 2017/18 season and will be applied at all FIS competitions, including FIS Cross-Country World Cup, FIS World Ski Championships and Olympic Winter Games.
